One would normally head to a library or a bookstore to check out the latest photography books. There was an additional, interesting option to choose from last week.
To mark the opening of the first ever outlet of a Steidl bookstore in India, we encountered a white-cube transformation of a different kind. Photoink morphed its gallery space into a reading room. Recognised as one of the most distinguished publishing houses, Steidl has printed some of the most significant books on photography, fine art and fashion. Visitors to the day-long opening were able to spend hours poring over the finest titles on make-shift reading furniture. For those who missed the event but are interested in checking out the publications, there is good news. Photoink now houses a permanent outlet of Steidl books. Art lovers, artists, critics and people from the creative field will now have access to a wealth of visual imagery that has hitherto largely been denied to Indian audiences.
